Translation &
transcreation
Plotting your next move.
All cultures tell stories but they’re never quite the same. For Germans, it’s not the hare and the tortoise but the hare and the hedgehog. The hedgehog and his wife appear at opposite ends of the track, so each time, the hare believes he’s being outpaced. Finally, he collapses from exhaustion. Instead of a moral about how “slow and steady wins the race”, the German story is about cleverness and teamwork.
This is why translation or transcreation is never just about language, it’s about adjusting how a business, foundation or individual tells their story so it’s a fit with a new culture’s literary tropes, value systems and beliefs.
